The central idea of my concentration is that I wanted to explore the idea of "Cultures in Southern California". I took this picture at Balboa Park's Japanese Friendship Garden. This photo represents the Japanese culture portion of my concentration theme because of the koi fish and the bonsai tree. I took this photo in RAW and put the photo through Bridges to edit. I turned down the contrast, exposure, highlights, and whites of the photo. I then used Photoshop to enhance the fish by making the rest of the photo black and white. I apologize for the low quality the photo shows up to be. I had to save it with low quality on Photoshop to put onto the website.

The central idea of my concentration is that I wanted to explore the idea of "Cultures in Southern California". I took this photo at an Asian Pacific Language Elementary School. The school was having a Chinese New Year festival for all the kids, teachers, and even parents. It was very difficult to park near the school because they did not have a parking lot and there were many people there so we had to park a little ways down the street. The program that invited me to the event was the Naritoku kids drum school that is presented in this photo. I used rule of thirds to frame the drums in the bottom middle section and the kids are on the right column of the rule of thirds. I believe this is another photo that represents the Japanese culture of my central idea.

The central idea of my concentration is that I wanted to explore the idea of "Cultures in Southern California". I took this photo in Little Italy in downtown San Diego. This photo represents the Italian culture of my central idea. I feel like the lights really just represent the Italian culture and shows authenticity. The window stickers and the reflection of the colored tent shows the Italian way of life in a small part of Southern California. The red, white, and green represent Italy because those are the colors of their flag.

The central idea of my concentration is that I wanted to explore the idea of "Cultures in Southern California". This photo represents the Middle Eastern/Israeli culture of my concentration because of clothing that the dolls in the picture are wearing, especially the cloth that goes over their heads and mouths. This is a traditional headpiece in Israeli for the women to wear. I took this photo at Disneyland in the ride "It's a Small World" where they celebrate diversity and equality.

The central idea of my concentration is that I wanted to explore the idea of "Cultures in Southern California". This photo represents New Orleans, a city in Louisiana on the Mississippi River and near the Gulf of Mexico, and its tradition of throwing stringed beads and other trinkets during Mardi Gras.
Definition of Mardi Gras from Wikipedia: Refers to the events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.
The throwing of trinkets to the crowds was started in the early 1870s by the Twelfth Night Revelers, and is a time-honored expectation for young and old alike. The tradition of bead throwing started with their original colors. The color of the beads was determined by the king of the first daytime Carnival in 1872. He wanted the colors to be royal colors - purple for justice, gold for power and green for faith. I took this photo at Disneyland's New Orleans Square. There, colorful stringed beads and masks are hung on all the balconies and stringed lights on the buildings. There are many different colors, sizes, and shapes of the beads hung all over New Orleans Square at Disneyland.
